JON BERGMANN

The year was 1987 and I was afraid. Had I created an inviting place for students to learn? Was I going to be able to control unruly students? Would my students like me? These and many more questions buzzed in my head as students walked into my first class. Over the past seven years, I’ve traveled 700,000 miles showing school leaders and educators on six continents how to use the operating system for mastery learning. I’ve now returned to the classroom to teach high school science and I have many of the same feelings, thoughts, and questions I had back in 1987.  In this new leg of my journey,  I will be marrying the best pedagogy with the best technologies and putting into practice everything I’ve learned along the way.  I know there will be many ups and downs, and I will share my travails and triumphs with you as I come full circle — back to the heart of what it means to be a teacher. I hope you’ll join me as I head back to the classroom with mastery learning and Brightspace.
